keepsakes

My dad and I were going through old stuff from his parents’ house tonight. They’re 90 and 91, and he just moved them into a nursing home, after the arduous task of sifting through a lifetime of belongings and deciding what to keep. My dad saved these metal and rubber printing plates for me, such a treasure! I’m not sure the exact dates. Some are on wood blocks, others on metal. Hyman’s Furniture Store, started by my great grandfather, was closed last year after 94 years.

And a photograph from 1940 of my grandfather, now 91 years old, born in 1921, in his uniform in World War II. That’s history right there! There were a bunch of handwritten and typewriter letters from all over with the photographs.
