ummm… I guess I have another collection

Well, now I can’t wear most of my shirts with most of my sweaters because that would be “Power Clashing” (Alec Baldwin on 30 Rock), and I’m not as cool as Alec Baldwin, so idk if I can do that. But I obvs like stripes, neutral colors, and red accents… I need to stop buying clothes that all look the same as each other haha

Mapping Pomegranates

For my Information Design class, we are supposed to “design a set of instructions” — like that isn’t open ended or anything :P So I decided to show you the proper way to peel a pomegranate sans mess. Only le pen tool vector rendering pour illustrator is taking fo evaaaaa! Also it’s making me wish they were in season! I’ll show you when it’s done. Plan on nicely setting type and making a little booklet.

Portfolio gets a PHP Makeover!

Yo go check it out! (basically the same but better!) No more long repetitive strings of html. A friend taught me enough php to launch an updated version of my site. I owe him several beers :) Go take a look and let me know what you think!

Stop Theif!

Well this is a lesson I should really take to heart! As a sufferer of “blonde envy” and second guessing all of my design in comparison to the other top .05% of designers in the world, aka RISD. It’s hard to remember at an excellent school that everyone at that school is also excellent, which makes you average among that crowd. Gotta remove myself from that context to regain confidence as a designer :) Here’s a nice little quote from Theodore Roosevelt which I might need to plaster to my forehead (backwards, so that when I check the mirror, I remember that what other people think doesn’t matter as long as I’m happy with what I’m doing) EGO Boost everybody! you are great the way you are!

And as my nerdy side note, I wish they’d been more attentive to the kerning between the P and the A, it’s a little loose.

Novel Ideas

I guess I should explain (based on reactions from the Muji Post) that sometimes I post things that I like, as inspiration for things that I could do, not as suggestions of things you should buy exactly that brand and spend lots of money on something you could (a) make yourself, or (b) find somewhere cheaper. Some things, like Apple and Braun, I won’t compromise, I’d rather have the original. The design perfection is the whole point. Other things, like silly notebooks, or organizational stuff, is something you could find cheaply and modify it to make it awesome (unless the original is something you absolutely love). Anyway, this post is a whole bunch of cool stuff, some of it pointless, some well-designed, some pretty, some useful, and some just whatevers. They’re just things I like, that I thought I’d share. Better Living Through Design is full of this kind of stuff (useful or useless but cool) so go ahead and poke around. Odds are I’ll never buy any of it, but it’s up there in the brain storage of funky ideas :)

and a silly joke :) the crumple maps caption reads: "What? You’re still doing your holiday shopping? Check your local bookstores for these maps, because they are genius. Instead of endlessly folding/refolding, you just crumple up this map and throw it in your bag or pocket. Plus, it’s 100% waterproof and includes streets, monuments, museums, art galleries and much more (as in, 10 “SoulSights” to excite you)."
