Artiva

Sorry for the slow down, I was out of town this weekend. My grandparents just turned 90 and 91, respectively, and we all flew in to celebrate their birthdays.

I just discovered a great body of work by Artiva Design, an Italian creative studio. Much of their work is monochromatic, and uses line, space, and type as image quite effectively to create motion and energy out of just ink and paper. They make really beautiful print work. Definitely something to aspire to.

Ducats Milk Packaging from the 80s

Another nice find on AisleOne, Ducats milk cartons designed by Heinz Grunwald in the 80s. I tell you, I’d drink a lot more milk if I got to drink them out of these!

vintage beer cans

Everybody loves beer, and everybody loves cool vintage things! I sent this link from AisleOne to Harvey, the guy who runs Oh Beautiful Beer, and he wrote me back! (except he only posts things if he can credit the designer, and the Flickr album of the rest of the cans unfortunately does not credit designers) I usually try to credit, but in this case, even though I can’t find any info, I still wanted to show these to you because they’re pretty awesome.

vintage oil cans

AisleOne has a nice post about these vintage oil cans designed by Antrepo. They make a nice point about design and society going from beautiful designs like these to crappy designs like this

vintage poker chips

This is a pretty small canvas to work with, so you’ve got to give these designers credit. (Unfortunately the site where I found them doesn’t actually list who designed them…) The site does show about 40 poker chips from the 60s and 70s though! Go take a look at some more here!
